ANC might lose its authority in the 2024 National elections

By Oyisa George

If 1994 marked the start of democracy in South Africa, 2024 might mark its end. The African National Congress (ANC) electoral majority, which was previously impassable, may be permanently cracked in the national election in 2024.

“It is likely that the ANC will end this year even more mortally divided than it is now and the leadership election is bound to be messy and complicated,” stated by Daily Maverick.

The SACP believes that the African National Congress (ANC) will lose its power as its forecasts that it is traditionally an ally will not get 50% in the 2024 national elections. The run-up to 2024 has been referred to by the African National Congress as ‘disloyal water’ that it must cross.

“ Current trajectories and modeling exercises project the ANC to dip below 50% in the 2024 national elections, for the first time since 1994,” stated by IOL.

In South Africa, a new political turning point will emerge following the national elections in 2024. The ANC, DA, and EFF are likely allies. According to the predicted election results the unconquerable ANC would receive roughly 40% of the general public’s vote, followed by the DA (24%) and the EFF (19%).

The deputy president, David Mabuza claimed those who predicted the death of the African National Congress were wrong as the party is not a death’s door. He believes that the ANC would survive the 2024 national elections by force.

David Mabuza was delivering a speech at Peter's memorial lecture in Limpopo.

“Many people are talking about the burial of the ANC in 2024. I can hear them. Some organizations are talking about our death and the ANC that it is about to die. I do not believe that. Especially in the Limpopo province as it is a home of the ANC.”
